5/3/2020 - Steve delivers a public lecture at the New York Academy of Sciences "" event. Lots of amazing science and really impressive questions from members of the public, young and old.

4/3/2020 - Steve attends the presentation dinner for the 2020 Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in the United Kingdom and receives his medal. A very fancy shindig! Not every day you get paraded into a room to sound of a trumpet fanfare! Great opportunity to hang out with fellow finalist Matt Fuchter - it seems like ages (because it is) since we were PhD students in the Barrett group!

5/2/2020 - Igor Larrosa () visits the department to give his RSC Corday Morgan Prize lecture! Great science and a great opportunity to catch up with an old friend!

22/1/2020 - Steve and Andrew's take on some of the challenges involved in taking interlocked molecular machines from the lab bench into the real world is out now in ACS Central Science. Simplicity is the word! It's not the last word on the subject by any means, but hopefully it will get people talking! Click here for more information.

15/1/2020 - It is now official! Steve has been named as a Chemistry FInalist in the 2020 Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in the UK! This award is thanks to all the hard work of Goldup Group member past and present, to give credit where it's due. Steve gets the money though!

5/1/2020 - Steve was supposed to fly to Japan today to take part in the in Chiba, before travelling on to Singapore for the International Conference on Synthetic Chemistry and Catalysis. Unfortunately he hasn't been able to travel for various reasons. Shame to miss out on the science and catching up with friends, but, based on Twitter, it looks like the meetings were a huge success without him!

2/1/2020 - Starting the new decade with a bang - Peggy's (Zhihui Zhang) paper on interlocked luminescent platinum complexes in collaboration with is out now in Chem. Sci. - well done! Click here for more information.

23/12/2019 - All good things must come to an ened - it's Dr Florian Modicom's last day in the group. Florian joined us back at QMUL for an internship, returned for a PhD in Southampton and then won an EPSRC doctoaral Prize to start a new research area in the group as a post doc! Thanks for all the hard work and good times - its' been a pleasure growing old with you! Good luck in Oxford with in the Fletcher Group - they are very lucky to have you!

Thanks to her examiners, Paul McGonigal and Matt Baud, and also to Paul for his excellent research talk!. Not to worry though, Ellen is back in the New Year to start a new research area in the group as an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow - looking forward to it!

16/12/2019 - Last conference of the decade! Steve and most of the group attend the RSC Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry annual meeting organised by the excellent , and , who did an amazing job both in arranging an outstanding range of speakers and feeding and watering almost 200 delegates! A great way to end the decade!

12/12/2019 - Final trip to Manchester for the year! Steve takes part in the Leigh Group 30th Anniversary Symposium. Amazing to see the quality and variety of talks - not just chemistry! Lots of laughs as well, and of course, catching up with old friends and new.

11/12/2019 - the Goldup Group Christmas Party - lot's to celebrate this year! Not sure the dress code was properly communicated though...

2/12/2019 - Steve and Ellen travel to London for the excellent Royal Society of Chemistry Organic Division Poster Symposium. An excellent day, as ever!

1/11/2019 - Steve travels to Manchester to act as external examiner for Adyasha Panigra from the Larrosa Grouph. A real pleasure disucssing her chemistry and a great opportunity to catch up with old friends (and sneak in an invited lecture on the group's research!).

8/10/2019幸运飞艇计划软件免费版 - Professors Ryota Iino (Institute of Molecular Science) and Kazushi Kinbara (Tokyo Institute of Technology) visit Southampton to present the research as part of an exciting new project on Molecular Engines - really excellent lectures and a pleasure to talk with them afterwards about the future of the project! (and of course a little time for some well deserved refreshments after a long day of science!)

27/9/2019 - Research groups are constantly changing - co-workers go on to better things and new people arrive to join the team! It's quite long (45 pages - a real labour of love) and covers all the stereogenic units based on the mechanical bind reported so far AND proposes some new structures that have yet to be made - time to get back in the lab and make some molecules! No TOC graphic yet but here's the picture from our biographies. Can you tell we're not quite used to the bright spring sunshine yet?

12/3/2018 - Congratulations to Florian, currently a 3rd year PhD student in the group, who has won an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship to work on an exciting new project as a post doc (once he's handed in his thesis ;-) )! A good excuse for a little afternoon bubbly!

5/3/2018 - Our paper on fluorescent rotaxanes as ditopic hosts has appeared online in Angew. Chem. as a Hot Paper! This was a collaboration with Prof Kate Jolliffe at the University of Sydney made possible by a Royal Society travel grant. Finishing the end of an era theme, today is Dr Jamie Lewis' last day in the group. Jamie is moving to Imperial College to start his own group as an Imperial College Research Fellow - good luck Jamie! No pressure but you should know that we expect great things!

27/9/2017 - The group is very excited to welcome four (!) new PhD students - Theerapoom, Andrew, Shu Zhang and Jack. It's going to be a busy lab this year!

25/9/2017 - Steve travels to Stockholm to deliver a lecture at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) on the group's recent results as part of the Aulin Erdtman Young Investigator lecture series

12/9/2017 - Dr Marzia Galli leaves the group today after four years pioneering new rotaxane catalysts, and more recently as part of her EPSRC doctoral prize, some very exciting new chemistry coming to a journal near you soon! We're going to miss Marzia but are very excited about her new role with Merck in Rome - good luck Marzia!

27/8/2017 - Steve attends the GECO meeting in Dinnard to hear some excellent organic chemistry presentations from across Europe and present the groups recent work in functional interlocked molecules. The location is pretty nice too!

17/8/2017 - The group *finally* celebrate recent successes properly - Marzia's new job with Merck, Jamie's Imperial College Fellowship and Steve's promotion. Congratulations also go to Mathieu who, as always, destroyed us all at bowling!

7/7/2017 - Steve and Jon Kitchen host a a post-ISMSC Supramolecular Symposium in Southampton focussing on new and unpublished research. 17/4/2017 - Steve and Mathieu attend the innagural C3 Symposium on Supramolecular Chemistry to foster links between researchers in the UK, China and Australia. The meeting was organised in beautiful Xiamen by Professors Yun Bao and Xiao-Yu Cao and not only was the science excellent, the hospitality was too (including some unexpected singing from our host!).

10/3/2017 - Mathieu Denis has won an EPSRC Doctoral Prize award to develop his research in new directions after his PhD - congratulations Mathieu - great to have you around for another year!

8/3/2017 - from the Frei Universität in Berlin visits Southampton to present some excellent supramolecular chemistry!

And the day before there was time for some sightseeing at the impressive Forbidden City and Summer Palace with Professor Chen's student Mr (soon to be Dr) Yun Shen.
